Kirkuk Governor Signs Landmark Refinery Contract
Kirkuk Governor Ribwar Taha Mustafa has officially signed a contract for the construction of the Kirkuk Refinery, a major project set to produce 70,000 barrels per day (bpd).
The refinery, to be developed by Sulaymania-based Rania Group, represents a $2 billion investment and is positioned to drive economic growth and employment in the region.
During the signing ceremony—attended by members of the Kirkuk Provincial Council, government officials, and security representatives—the Governor emphasized the refinery’s role in job creation and economic development. He also expressed appreciation to the Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers for their support in securing the necessary approvals for the project.
Strategically located near existing oil infrastructure, including North Gas Company (NGC), the refinery has obtained all required sectoral clearances. The Kirkuk administration has pledged full backing for the investment, highlighting its potential to enhance self-sufficiency in petroleum products, introduce advanced technology, and maintain strict environmental standards to safeguard both the community and the environment.
